The last time a host country lost an opening game in an Afcon was 7th February, 1998.
* Burkina Faso the host nation lost 1-0 to Cameroon. The goal came in the 20th minutes and it was scored by Alphonse Marie Tchami Djomaha.
* The only time Egypt lost an opening game as a host nation was Friday, 7th March, 1986 at the Cairo International Stadium. They lost 1-0 to Senegal. Thierno Youm was the one who scored the goal.
