• The 2002 Quarter-finals, Senegal will lock horns with the 3-time Runners-up, Netherlands in Group A opener fixture in the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the Al Thumama Stadium, Doha on Monday, 21st November, 2022 evening in Qatar.

• The 2022 FIFA World Cup is the 22nd edition since the competition started in 1930 is the 3rd appearance for Senegal while it is the 11th appearance for Netherlands.


• The Group A showdown on Monday, 21st November, 2022 will be Senegal and Netherlands First ever meeting between the two sides.

• Senegal beat Egypt in a penalty shoot-out to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

• Aliou Cissé’s side have been inconsistent since, winning five (5) of their eleven (11) games.

• Senegal played two friendlies in September, beating Bolivia 2-0 before a 1-1 draw against Iran.


• Netherlands finished two points above Turkey in Group G of the World Cup qualifiers, winning seven games with two draws and a defeat in 10 matches.

• Sadio Mane has been directly involved in twelve (12) of the last twenty-five (25) goals scored by Senegal players in major International tournaments (AFCON and World Cup), scoring nine (9) goals and assisting three (3) but he will not be available for this tournament due to injury.

• The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be Aliou Cisse's second consecutive FIFA World Cup as Senegal Manager. He has been a part of seven (7) of his side, Senegal eight (8) games played in the competition (4 as a player, 3 as a coach), he also captained the nation in 2002, their only other appearance at the finals.

• The Netherlands are unbeaten in their last fifteen (15) International matches (W11 D4), all since Louis van Gaal was appointed coach in August 2021. Their last defeat was against Czechia in June 2021 at EURO 2020.

• Netherlands were one of the shock omissions from the 2018 FIFA World Cup after failing to qualify for the tournament, but they return in 2022 back under the command of esteemed head coach Louis Van Gaal, who led them to a third-place finish in 2014.
