2022 FIFA WORLD CUP PREVIEW: DENMARK VS TUNISIA

• The 1998 Quarter-finals, Denmark will lock horns with the 6-time Group stage, Tunisia in Group D opener fixture in the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the Education City Stadium, Al Rayyan on Tuesday, 22nd November, 2022 afternoon in Qatar.

Predictions: Home win/draw

• The 2022 FIFA World Cup is the 22nd edition since the competition started in 1930 is the 6th appearance for Denmark while it is the 6th appearance for Tunisia.

• HEAD-TO-HEAD

• The Group D showdown on Tuesday, 22nd November, 2022 will be Denmark and Tunisia First ever meeting at the FIFA World Cup.

 • Their only previous meeting was a friendly International game 20 years ago in Japan, prior to the 2002 FIFA World Cup tournament, Denmark won 2-1.                                 

• DENMARK FORM:

• Denmark won nine(9) out of their ten (10) games in the World Cup qualifying, losing only against Scotland. They kept more clean sheets in the Group stage of European qualifying than any other side (8).

• Kasper Hjulmand’s side won four (4) out of their six (6) matches in the Nations League with two (2) defeats.

• Denmark lost 2-1 to Croatia before ending the campaign with a 2-0 win against France.

• TUNISIA FORM 

• The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia beat Mali 1-0 on aggregate in the qualifiers to reach their sixth FIFA World Cup.

• Jalel Kadri’s side have played six (6) matches since, resulting in four (4) wins, a draw and a defeat.

• Tunisia’s last match was a 5-1 defeat to Brazil in a friendly, playing with 10 men in the second half when Dylan Bronn was sent off.

• The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia claimed a notable landmark on their debut appearance at the FIFA World Cup finals in 1978 edition, beating Mexico 3-1 in their opening game saw them become the FIRST African Nation to win a match at the FIFA World Cup final tournament.

• Tunisia second victory in the FIFA World Cup competition did not come until fourty (40) years after their maiden triumph as they defeated Panama 2-1 in their final Group match at the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup to give them a first taste of victory in the tournament since 1978 and end a run if 13 World Cup matches without a win.

• Going to Qatar 2022, Tunisia have lost 60% of their FIFA World Cup games (9/15), the third highest percentage by a team to have played at least fifteen (15) games in the competition, behind only Saudi Arabia (69% - 11/16), and Australia (63% -10/16).

•  Tunisia have failed to keep a clean sheet in fourteen (14) of their fifteen (15) games at the FIFA World Cup (25 goals conceded), the only exception coming against West Germany in 1978 (0-0).

• Tunisia have only failed to SCORE in one of their last six (6) FIFA World Cup matches.

• Denmark are the 14th different Nation that the Cartage Eagles of Tunisia have faced in what is their 16th FIFA World Cup match.

• Ghana advanced to the Quater-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa, becoming the third team from Africa (behind Cameroon in 1990 and Senegal in 2002).

• Christian Eriksen and Simon Kjær are both appearing at their third World Cup, this sees them equal the record of Martin Jorgensen who made three (3) FIFA World Cup participations for Denmark in 1998, 2002 and 2010.

• Christian Eriksen holds the record as the youngest player make an appearance for Denmark at the FIFA World Cup, he featured against the Netherlands in 2010 at the age of 18 years and 120 days.

• There are ten (10) players in the Tunisia squad for the 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup who also featured at Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.

 • Wahbi Khazri has been directly involved in each of Tunisia's last four (4) goals at the FIFA World Cup (2 goals, 2 assists). He is the only Tunisian player to register more than one goal at the finals since their first appearance in the competition in 1978.
