2026 CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS: MEDEAMA SC TAKES ON NATIONS FC

• Medeama SC and Nations FC prepare to lock horns in the Champion of Champions match at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday, August 30, 2026. 

• Host selection:

• The GFA ExCo used to rotate the venue for the Champion of Champions until before the 2025 edition of the competition, a 5-member Planning Committee selected Dun's Park in Bibiani, the home Grounds of the reigning champions of the Ghana Premier League and further suggested that the match should be held at the home Grounds of the reigning champions of the Ghana Premier League will serve as the venue for the Champion of Champions, and approved by GFA Executive Council (ExCo) during June 2025 and per Article 9 of Premier League Regulations.

• The TnA Stadium, the home Grounds of the 2025-26 Ghana Premier League winners, Medeama SC, in Tarkwa, will host the 2026 edition of the Champion of Champions between Medeama SC and Nations FC.

• This will be the second time the Champion of Champions has been held at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa. The 2024 edition of the Champion of Champions, which FC Samartex won 1-0 against Nsoatreman FC, was hosted at the TnA Stadium on Saturday, August 31, 2024, courtesy of Emmanuel Mamah in the 79th minute.

• The 2026 edition of the Champion of Champions, or Super Cup, is the 22nd time since the competition started in 1969, and it is played between the winner of the Ghana Premier League and the winner of the FA Cup.

• Medeama SC, crowned league champions last season, will be hoping to solidify their credentials as a rising force in Ghanaian football after clinching the 2025-26 Premier League title. 

• Led by coach Ibrahim Tanko, the Tarkwa-based side will look to draw strength from their home fans at the TnA Stadium as they aim to build on their league triumph with another piece of silverware.

• The former Ghana Black Stars and Borussia Dortmund striker has been in charge since mid-2024 (2½ year deal from Accra Lions).

• He is expected to guide Medeama SC in the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League and CAF Champions League.

• Nations FC secured the 2025-26 MTN FA Cup after a historic campaign, and they will be keen to add to their collection.

• Zdravko Logarušić is the current head coach of Nations FC for the 2026-27 season. The Croatian, 60, was appointed in July 2026 ahead of the new season - his 4th stint in Ghana after Asante Kotoko, Ashanti Gold and King Faisal.

• He will lead Nations FC in the Access Bank Division One League and their first-ever CAF Confederation Cup campaign after winning the 2025-26 MTN FA Cup.

• He said his target is to get promotion back to GPL and reach the Confederation Cup group stage.

• Previous coach: Stephen Frimpong Manso took over from Kasim Mingle mid 2025-26 and guided Nations FC to win the 2025-26 MTN FA Cup trophy, but they were relegated from the Ghana Premier League, and Frimpong Manso left at the end of the season.

• The first time Medeama SC competed in the Champion of Champions or Super Cup was the 2013 edition when they lost 3-0 to Asante Kotoko.

• The first time Medeama SC won the Champion of Champions or Super Cup title was in the 2016 edition, when they beat Obuasi Ashanti Gold by 1-0.

• The last time Medeama SC won the Champion of Champions or Super Cup trophy was in 2023, when they beat Dreams FC 2-1 on September 3, 2023, at the Cape Coast Stadium.

• Medeama SC have won the Champion of Champions or Super Cup title on two occasions (2016, 2023).

• In the 2026 Champion of Champions match, Medeama SC, the reigning Premier League champions, will face off against Nations FC, the MTN FA Cup holders.
