The 2025-26 Ghana Premier League kicked off with a bang, featuring interesting pairings on Match Day One fixtures across the country from Friday to Sunday.
Surprising results were recorded across the nine match venues, showcasing superb performances, entertaining games, and impressive technical approaches from the teams' coaches.
Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw against Hohoe United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, September 12, 2025, extending Hearts' winless streak in Ghana Premier League opening fixtures to seven games.
Berekum Chelsea was shocked by Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park on Saturday, September 13, 2025, with Albert Amoah's solitary strike securing the three points for Asante Kotoko. This win marked the end of Asante Kotoko's 15-year winless away record at the Golden City Park.
Champions Bibiani Gold Stars repeated their opening fixture success from the 2024-25 season, defeating Bechem United 2-1 at Duns Park. Samuel Attah Kumi scored a brace for Gold Stars, while Darlvin Yeboah scored for Bechem United. Notably, Gold Stars' victory mirrored their Match Day 1 performance in the 2024-25 season, where they defeated Legon Cities 2-1 at Duns Park, and went on to win the league title.
Nations staged a dramatic comeback to win 2-1 against Swedru All Blacks at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Complex. The visitors took the lead through Kweku Baffoe in the 14th minute. Heart of Lions secured a 1-0 win over Dreams at the Kpando Sports Park after Skipper Ebenezer Abban converted a penalty kick in the 25th minute. Heart of Lions has scored in each of their 5 games against Dreams FC in the Ghana Premier League since the 2023-24 season, scoring a total of 7 goals.
Karela recorded a 1-0 narrow win against Aduana FC, two-time winners of the league, with Malik Abubakar's 3rd-minute strike at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
Basake Holy Stars were held to a goalless draw at home against Techiman Eleven Wonders at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, with both teams struggling to break the deadlock.
Medeama SC secured a 2-0 win over Young Apostles at the Nana Agyeman Badu Park. The travelers, Medeama SC, dominated the game with Jacob Mensah and Paul Yeboah scoring on the 17th and 62nd minutes, respectively, handing Young Apostles their first defeat.
