2025-26 GHANA PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW: BEREKUM CHELSEA FC VS KUMASI ASANTE KOTOKO

The Ghana Premier League continues across the length and breadth of the country with interesting fixtures in the first week after the 2025-26 season kicked off on September 12, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw against Hohoe United.

Berekum Chelsea will welcome Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park on Saturday, September 13, 2025. Both teams start the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with the aim of winning the ultimate trophy, as they are both former winners of the Ghana Premier League.

Berekum Chelsea had a disappointing campaign that saw them slump to 12th place, which was their worst performance in the league since their debut in the 2008-09 season. Berekum Chelsea finished 12th in the Ghana Premier League, with 44 points from 34 matches, having won 12, lost 14, and drawn 8.

Berekum Chelsea's Squad Changes

Berekum Chelsea are without some of their key players from the previous two seasons, including:

- Captain and defender Zakaria Fuseini (now with Kotoko)

- Midfielder Hubert Gyau (now with Kotoko)

- Defender Riis Opoku Twumasi

- Goalkeeper Obeng Sekyere Gregory

- Striker Mizack Afriyie

- Defender Ernest Mwankurinah (transferred to Aduana FC)

- Stephen Amankona (twice Ghana Premier League goal king winner, now with Egyptian team Smouha SC)

However, they have added experienced players to their squad, including:

- Augustine Agyapong (former Kotoko right-back)

- Michael Mensah Awuah (former Hearts defender)

- Morrison Anokye (Nsoatreman defender)

Asante Kotoko's New Signings

Asante Kotoko, who finished third in the last season's league and won the 2024-25 MTN FA Trophy, have also made several new signings to strengthen their roster. Some of the new signings include:

Coach Prospects:

Under Coach Boadu's guidance, Berekum Chelsea aims to blend youth with experience to achieve success. Fans of the "Bibires" will be eager to see if the coach's ambitions can translate into tangible success by the end of the campaign.

Asante Kotoko's Coach Zito and his team had mixed results in the off-season but managed to win two trophies, including beating their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the President's Cup.
