Accra Hearts of Oak have been crowned champions of the 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Cup after a thrilling 2-0 victory over Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Phobians successfully defended their title with an entertaining game displayed by both sides.
The match began with a solemn moment of reflection, as players and fans observed a minute's silence to honor the victims of a recent helicopter crash that claimed the lives of 8 Ghanaians.
Hearts of Oak's new signing, Frank Abora Duku, opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a brilliant finish, courtesy of a precise assist from Ali Mohammed.
Just four minutes later, Duku set up Hamza Issah, who doubled the lead for the Phobians with a stunning goal, flipping the ball over the keeper.
In the second half, Heart of Lions pushed hard for a goal, with Obeng Junior delivering a fantastic cross into the box. However, Hearts of Oak's goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, came out strong to deny the scoring opportunity.
Both teams will take valuable lessons from this fixture as they gear up for the upcoming GHALCA Top Four tournament, scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
The tournament promises to be an exciting contest, featuring top Ghanaian clubs, including
- Accra Hearts of Oak
- Heart of Lions
- Asante Kotoko
- Bibiani Gold Stars
This year's Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Cup was a celebration of peace and unity, aligning with the spirit of the Ga Homowo festival.
