GOLD STARS KICKS OFF TITLE DEFENSE WITH THRILLING 2-1 WIN AGAINST BECHEM UNITED

Bibiani Gold Stars kicked off their Ghana Premier League title defense with a thrilling 2-1 win over Bechem United at Duns Park in Bibiani. 

Similarly, in the 2024-25 season, Gold Stars won with the same scoreline, 2-1, in their Match Day 1 home fixture against Legon Cities, and they went on to win the season.

Samuel Atta Kumi stole the show, scoring twice within the first 22 minutes. He opened the scoring in the 3rd minute after converting a penalty kick and doubled the lead with a composed finish midway through the first half.

Bechem United responded promptly, with Darlvin Yeboah reducing the deficit just a minute after Kumi's second goal. 

Despite applying pressure in the second half, Bechem United couldn't find an equalizer, and Bibiani Gold Stars held on for the win.

This hard-fought victory gives Gold Stars a perfect start to the season and a significant morale boost ahead of their CAF Champions League qualifier against Algeria's JS Kabylie at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 20. 

The win also highlights Gold Stars' strong home record in this fixture, remaining unbeaten in four meetings at Duns Park and conceding just once.
