Medeama SC's 20-year-old sensation, Prince Owusu, popularly known as Ashtown Kwadwo Messi, has received a call-up to the Black Stars for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
A native of Offinso, Owusu completed Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem M/A JSH at Ashanti Newtown (Ashtown) and continued to Asanteman Senior High School, Kumasi, where he graduated in 2022 as a General Arts student.
His school football journey was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which halted competitions after the 2019-20 Ashanti Regional Inter-School Boys' Soccer Tournament, held in January 2020, just before the lockdown in March 2020.
Asanteman SHS was eliminated by Kumasi Academy (A tournament won by Kumasi High School).
Kwadwo Messi began his career at Kotoko Babies, one of the oldest colts clubs in the Ashanti Region, coached and managed by Osei Ghapo, before moving to Koforidua Suhyen SC in the Eastern Region, owned by ex-footballer Yusif Alhassan Chibsah. He was later loaned to Okwawu United in Division One before joining Medeama SC last season.
In his debut Premier League season, Owusu made 22 appearances, scoring one goal and providing two assists. This season, he has already played in all three league games for Medeama SC.
Known for his skillful dribbling, free-kick mastery, long-range strikes, blistering pace, and sharp positioning, Owusu is now set to make his mark on the international stage.
Congratulations, Kwadwo Messi 🎊 👏 💐 🥳 🙌
